Course Objectives and Content:
German 101 is an introductory
course in German intended for students with no previous knowledge of the language.
We will learn all four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading,
and writing), but the emphasis will be on developing proficiency in oral/aural
communication.
The content of German 101 can be divided into three categories: basic language
and vocabulary used in common situational contexts (asking for information,
interviews, shopping); basic grammar structures (including present tense, present
perfect, modal verbs, accusative and dative cases); contemporary cultural and
historical information about German speaking countries presented in a comparative
context (German newspapers, selected German language authors, comparison of
Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
